Leonie Harm won the Texas State Invitational by 2 shots at The Bandit Golf Club in New Braunfels. Harm finished at 218 (+5) after rounds of 70-73-75 (par 71). It is her first-ever collegiate win.
Megan Thothong tied for 16th at +15 after shooting 72-79-77. Courtney Tibiletti tied for 22nd in another solid outing for the junior.
Harm started strong in the final round with a birdie at #13 (her starting hole) before three-straight bogeys dropped her into a tie for the lead. It was short-lived, however, as Harm parred 17 and birdied 18 to take the lead again – one she did not give up again.
The players were forced to complete their second rounds on Tuesday; Harm put an exclamation point on her second round with a par-birdie-par finish to take a one-shot lead into the final 18.
In Monday’s opening round, Leonie began on the 13th with two pars then stumbled on 15 and 16 with bogeys. She made birdies at 17 and 18 and after making the turn, rattled off 8 straight pars. Harm birdied #9 and then made pars at 10, 11 and 12 to shoot a one-under round of 70.
In the 2nd round, Harm made 13 pars and 2 birdies along with 2 bogeys and her only double of the tournament. Leonie finished with 36 pars and 7 birdies in 54 holes.
Megan Thothong finished 72-77-79 (228) in her 3 rounds. Thothong was solid through most of the tournament but was perplexed by the par-4 eighth hole. Otherwise, she birdied or parred the other 17 holes at least once. Megan finished T-5 in birdies with 8.
Courtney Tibiletti was consistent in rounds of 77-77-76 (230) while Kelli Rollo finished with 77-79-79 (235).
UH did not field a “team” in the traditional sense for this event but had 4 individuals competing in stroke play. The Cougars were not eligible to win the team event.
